Fees & Insurance

đź’µ Session Fees
Our fees vary based on your therapist’s level of experience. Sliding scale rates are sometimes available.

🎓 UC Berkeley & Stanford SHIP
We are an in-network provider. Most SHIP patients pay a $15 copay per session.

đź“‘ Other Insurance Plans
We are out-of-network providers for most insurance. We’ll provide you with a superbill (a detailed receipt with the diagnosis and CPT code) that you can submit to your insurance for possible reimbursement.

Because every plan is different, we recommend contacting your insurance company before scheduling to learn about your out-of-network benefits. Some plans don’t offer them, some require you to meet a deductible first, and others reimburse generously.

🧾 Private Pay
If you prefer, you can also pay privately without using insurance.  We accept Flex Health Spending Accounts.

FAQ's

âť“ Do you take my insurance?
We accept UC Berkeley SHIP in-network. For all other plans, we are out-of-network but can provide you with a superbill to request reimbursement.

âť“ What is a superbill?
A superbill is a detailed receipt that includes your diagnosis and the CPT (treatment) code. You submit it to your insurance company, and they determine whether you qualify for out-of-network reimbursement.

âť“ How much will I get reimbursed?
It depends on your plan. CHeck to see if you have any out of network coverage.  Some cover a percentage after you meet your deductible, and some cover generously. The best way to know is to call your insurance company before your first session.

âť“ Do you offer sliding scale?
Yes, when available. Sliding scale is based on clinician availability and financial need.

âť“ Can I pay privately?
Absolutely. Many patients prefer to pay directly without involving insurance.

New-Patient FAQ

(Belonging Partnership Psychotherapy)

What should I expect on the free consultation call?

You’ll meet with our intake coordinator, who will clarify your goals, match you with a clinician, and explain next steps. If we’re not the right fit, we’ll provide referrals at no cost.

What happens in the first session?

Your first 50-minute session is a collaboration to learn more about you.  Together we’ll co-create a roadmap for therapy, including frequency, methods, and measures of progress. Many patients feel immediate relief from being deeply heard and understood.

How soon can therapy begin after consultation?

Once your consent forms are signed, we can usually begin sessions right away.

How do I prepare for sessions?

For telehealth, choose a quiet, private space. Bring any notes about how you’ve been feeling so we can make the most of our time together.

Do you provide in-person, virtual, or hybrid sessions?

Yes. We see clients in person at our Berkeley office, virtually anywhere in California we are licensed (California and New York),

What types of services do you offer?

We provide therapy for individuals, couples, families, and groups. Our clinicians draw on psychodynamic/psychoanalytic approaches, EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and somatic / mindfulness-based interventions. Couples work incorporates the Gottman Method and Emotionally Focused Therapy. Specialty care includes trauma treatment, neurodivergent-affirming therapy, giftedness/academic stress support, grief work, and parent coaching. Our clinicians can provide more information about each of these treatment models to find the best personalized fit for you.

How do you approach trauma-informed care?

We embed Trauma-Informed Care principles—safety, trust, empowerment, choice, collaboration, and cultural humility—into every aspect of our practice. Interventions are paced to respect your nervous system, and we always explain the rationale behind each method.

How do you support clients from diverse backgrounds?

Our clinicians receive ongoing training in cultural humility and anti-oppression frameworks. Intake includes discussion of cultural identity and systemic stressors so treatment reflects your lived experience. Research shows culturally responsive care improves engagement and outcomes, which is why it’s central here.

Do you offer therapy for couples?

Yes. Our couples work integrates evidence-based approaches (Gottman Method, EFT) to help partners strengthen connection and navigate conflict.

What evidence-based methods do you use?
  • EMDR for PTSD and trauma

  • Psychodynamic/Psychoanalytic therapy for personality change and long-term growth

  • IFS (parts work), including adaptations for OCD

  • Mindfulness-based interventions for emotion regulation

Do you offer support for giftedness or academic stress?

Yes. We specialize in twice-exceptionality and gifted-focused counseling, addressing impostor feelings, perfectionism, and “gifted-kid burnout.” We also provide academic stress support, including values-based goal setting and inner critic work.

Do you work with parents?

Yes. We provide coaching that translates attachment research into practical scripts for limit-setting and co-regulation. Sessions often flex between parent-only, child-only, and joint formats.

How do you maintain confidentiality?

We use HIPAA compliant electronic health records with bank-level encryption. We only release information with your written consent, except in cases required by law (e.g., imminent harm, child/elder abuse). These limits are explained clearly at intake.

What is your cancellation policy?

We require 48 business hours’ notice for cancellations to avoid being charged the full fee. Consistency in attendance is strongly linked to better outcomes.

Do you offer sliding-scale fees or financial assistance?

Yes. We reserve a limited number of sliding-scale spots each quarter. We also accept HSA/FSA cards, provide superbills for insurance reimbursement, and partner with nonprofits to offer pro bono sessions.

Do you take insurance?

We are in-network with UC Berkeley SHIP and Stanford Ship. For most other plans, we are out-of-network providers. Many PPO policies reimburse 50–80% of our fees; we provide superbills to help you submit claims.
